January 2012 - New Year Resolutions

Bookmark and Share

Many people set new goals and resolutions for a new year.  This is an excellent exercise and helps to set intentions and goals, and align our energy for the coming year.  It also helps to take a break from the busy-ness of daily life, think about what we want to leave behind and what we want to carry forward into the new year.

There are many ways to do the annual ritual exercise.  Our favorite is this one:

  1. Find a quiet place and meditate about what you want to release from last year.
  2. When you are ready, write down what you want to release on a piece of paper.
  3. Burn the paper, consciously releasing whatever is written there and knowing that it is also gone from your consciousness.  If you are not in a safe place for burning, you can tear it up into little pieces and throw it away.
  4. Meditate on what you want for yourself in 2012.
  5. Allow yourself to be open to receiving a word, name or short phrase describing who you are and what is true for you in 20012.
  6. Write down whatever comes to you.
  7. Spend some time understanding the meaning of that word, name or phrase and allow it to assist you this year.  Find ways to use that word, name or phrase all year.  Each time you use it, reaffirm what it means for you.
  8. If you have specific goals that you want to achieve, write them down and refer to them during the year.  Be specific about what you are willing to do to achieve your goals.  Those specific disciplines become your resolutions for the year - your commitment to yourself
  9. Every day, take time to review your list, allowing the good feelings to fill you as you experience the feelings of achieving your goals and desires.

Another perspective on New Year resolutions is given in this article from the Daily Om: "New Year's Resolutions: The Two Lists"  http://www.spiritual-short-stories.com/spiritual-short-story-485-New+Year%27s+Resolutions+The+Two+Lists.html

No matter how you set goals for the new year or whether you just keep on keeping on as you are, we wish you the very best possible success in 2012!

If you are thinking about creating sources of income, new business ideas or exploring expansion of a existing business, our book Income Without a Job has some great exercises to assist with that.
