June 2009 - Create a Tangible Vision

Bookmark and Share

Last month we talked about creating a Wish List of what you want to have or do or be.

This month, we help you take another step to making that Wish List come true.

Where to start?

Some people like to start with a Vision Board.  Others like to create a Vision Journal.  Either one or both will work for you.

To create a Vision Board, get a large size piece of poster-sized heavy cardboard (usually, 22 inches x 28 inches) from your local office supply store.  You can get a white one or a colored one - which ever feels right for you.

Find some magazines or newspapers or other resources where you can cut out pictures of things that represent the things on your Wish List.  Maybe, gather some friends together and all do it together.  Don't rush getting your pictures.  Have fun with it.

You can select photos, pictures, words, cartoons, glittery items - whatever feels right for you.

For example, if you want to travel more, find pictures of airplanes or cruise ships or the places you want to visit.

Place your items on your Vision Board using an artist's glue stick in whatever arrangement seems right for you.  You can continue to add to your Vision Board over time.

You can also write on your board or draw on your board.

The main thing is to make it represent visually what you wish for.

Place your finished Vision Board where you can see it every day.  Every time you look at it, it will remind you of your dreams.  Imagine how you will feel when those dreams come true for you.  Allow yourself to revel in the feelings of joy as you look at your creations.

To create a Vision Journal, a similar concept is used.  For a Vision Journal, get a bound book at a local artist supply store.  A hard bound artist's sketch book works best.  Or, you can use a spiral bound book.

Into your Vision Journal, you will put pictures, photos, words, articles, drawings or whatever represents what you wish for.

Like a Vision Board, over time your Vision Journal will grow and change as you add to the many pages in the book.  An artist friend of ours, Robbi Firestone, has created many Vision Journals for herself over many years.  She now teaches classes in how to create them.

Your life is your life and you are creating it every single day, so why not create it the way YOU want it?

Creating a tangible vision of what you want is taking you one step closer to achieving your dreams.   Don't stop with just creating a Vision Board or Vision Journal.  Continue to add to your Wish List.

If you are thinking about creating sources of income, new business ideas or exploring expansion of a existing business, our book Income Without a Job has some great exercises to assist with that.
