October 2010 — What Are You Waiting For?

Bookmark and Share

What is keeping you from pursuing your dreams?  Is it the "slow economy" or "not enough time" or any number of other "excuses" that prevent you from doing what your heart tells you is right for you.

Is your head thinking too hard about the challenges you have in front of you?  Are you spending your creative energy making up "reasons" why you can’t do anything right now?

Most people have dreams with some secret — or not so secret — desire that they say they want to achieve.  Yet, many people fail to move forward on their dream for a wide variety of reasons.

This entire year is fraught with all sorts of excuses that people can latch onto.  Many of them seem to be "real" and many of them are simply excuses.

If you have a dream that isn’t being realized, make a commitment today to yourself to do something, even if it is a small baby step.

The "slow economy" seems to have many people sitting on the sidelines, waiting for something to happen.  If everyone is sitting on the sidelines, the economy will never move ahead.  Who is willing to help it move again?

How about you taking a small step forward — regardless of what anyone else is doing?  You will help yourself and you will help build the momentum that is necessary for our economy to move forward also.

A few things you can do:

  1. Take a step toward that dream of yours, however small the step might be.
  2. Make a decision that needs making.
  3. Do a task on your list.
  4. Write a letter than needs writing.
  5. Start a project that has been sitting only in your mind for too long.
  6. Make a plan for that dream.
  7. Buy something that you need.
  8. Hire someone – for your business or to help you with personal tasks.
  9. Close out a project that needs to be finished.
  10. Do a vision quest.
  11. Write a report that needs writing.
  12. Apologize to someone for something that needs an apology.
  13. Forgive someone — and forgive yourself — for some past event that keeps you stuck or feeling hurt or resentful.
  14. Tell someone how valuable they are to you and notice how much better you feel.
  15. Tell someone you love how much they mean to you and notice how much better you feel.

These are just a very few examples of taking a small step forward.

Think about what is not moving forward in your own life.  What small step can you take today?  What small step can you take tomorrow?  What small step can you take this week?  What small step can you take this month?  What small step can you take this year?

Whatever they are, do them.  Make a commitment to yourself to make your own life better.  You yourself are the biggest positive factor you have in your own success.

All of those small steps add up, especially if lots of other people take a small step also.  Think about it.  What do you have to lose by taking a small step?  What do you have to gain by taking a small step?

The choice is yours.  You can help everyone move forward or you can help only yourself.  You will benefit either way by taking a small step forward.

What are you waiting for?
